A Rolling Horizon Based Algorithm for Solving Integrated Airline Schedule Recovery Problem

چکیده
Airline disruption incurred huge cost for airlines and serious inconvenience for travelers. In this paper, we study the integrated airline schedule recovery problem, which considers flight recovery, aircraft recovery and crew recovery simultaneously. First we built an integer programming model which is based on traditional set partitioning model but including flight copy decision variables. Then a rolling horizon based algorithm is proposed to efficiently solve the model. Our algorithm decomposes the whole problem into smaller sub-problems by restricting swapping opportunities within each rolling period. All the flights are considered in each sub-problem to circumvent ‘myopic’ of traditional rolling horizon algorithm. Experimental results show that our method can provide competitive recovery solution in both solution quality and

Solving the Airline Recovery Problem By Using Ant Colony Optimization
In this paper an Ant Colony (ACO) algorithm is developed to solve aircraft recovery while considering disrupted passengers as part of objective function cost. By defining the recovery scope, the solution always guarantees a return to the original aircraft schedule as soon as possible which means least changes to the initial schedule and ensures that all downline affects of the disruption are ...
متن کاملMulti-period and multi-resource operating room scheduling and rescheduling using a rolling horizon approach: a case study
In this paper, a multi-period and multi-resource operating room (OR) scheduling and rescheduling problem with elective and semi-elective (semi-urgent) patients is addressed. A scheduling-rescheduling framework based on the so-called rolling horizon approach is proposed to solve the problem. The core of the proposed framework is a novel proposed mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) model with...
متن کاملAn Optimization Approach to Airline Integrated Recovery
While the airline industry has benefited from advancements made in advanced analytical OR methods, most products used in operation stem from the frictionless environment of the planning stage. With 22% of all flights being delayed and 3% being canceled in the U.S. since 2001, schedule perturbations are inevitable. The complexity of the operational environment is exacerbated by the need for obta...
متن کاملConstraint-specific recovery network for solving airline recovery problems
In this paper, we consider the recovery of an airline schedule after an unforeseen event called disruption, making the planned schedule infeasible. We present a modeling framework that allows the consideration of operational constraints within a Column Generation (CG) scheme. We introduce the general concept of recovery network, generated for each individual unit of the problem, and show how un...

Airline recovery presents very large and difficult problems requiring high quality solutions within very short time limits. To improve computational performance, various solution approaches have been employed, including decomposition methods and approximation techniques. There has been increasing interest in the development of efficient and accurate solution techniques to solve an integrated ai...
